What is promoted housing?
These are projects declared of interest under Uruguayan Law 18,795, which promotes housing construction with tax benefits for the developer and, partly, for the buyer. Most are in central and mid-town Montevideo neighbourhoods such as Cordón, Tres Cruces or La Blanqueada.
Benefits for buyers
If you rent it out, rental income is exempt from personal income tax (IRPF) for 10 years. The unit is exempt from Wealth Tax (Impuesto al Patrimonio) for 10 years. The first sale is exempt from the property transfer tax (ITP). For guidance only: conditions depend on each project and current regulations. Confirm them with your notary or accountant before buying.
